Fishing report January 2015
In January 2015 Panama with its Golf of Chiriqui and the North Pacific Ocean showed us once again why it is one of the best fishing destinations world wide.
Many Marlin and Sailfish have been caught and it was not unusual to hook 4-5 Marlin the same day. Blue and more Black Marlin were caught at the same places. Fishing was concentrated around Isla Montuosa as the water quality was great and bait fish was abundant all day long. Fortunately, the best fishing grounds are far away. To Montuosa Island we run 46 miles one way which takes about 2 hours depending on the weather and sea conditions. But fishing there is awesome. We also caught big Mahi Mahi while trolling and occasionally one of the huge Wahoo swimming around the banks.
Last week a possible new All Tackle World Record Pacific Sailfish was caught. The fish weight 225 pounds, 4 pounds more than the reigning world record.
We also concentrated our efforts on inshore fishing. While Popper fishing and live bait fishing around the islands close to the Pacific coast of Panama we caught Cubera Snapper, Roosterfish, Horseye Jack, Needlefish, Spanish Mackerel and some other hard fighting species.
In the next month we will concentrate our fishing efforts for Marlin and Pacific Sailfish as this time of the year is the best to catch one of this hard fighting Billfish. We will fish with plastic lures but more often we fish with live bait or dead bait as it is more effective.
Hopefully the Yellowfin Tuna will arrive in February. Some have been caught yet but the passed years showed us that the big tuna run might occur from March or April on.
We will allways give you a report at the end of the month and present you our best photos.
Thank’s to all our customers in January without whom Big Game Fishing in Panama with Tropical Sportfishing Panama would not be possible.
